If you over-indulged a little over Christmas and New Year here are a few cleansing foods to add into your diet over the next few weeks.

1. Dandelion root

Dandelion root has long been held as a “liver tonic” in folk medicine due to its ability to increase the flow of bile. It might also help with skin and eye conditions. On top of that, it’s considered a diuretic, as it increases urine production which can reduce bloating.

2. Broccoli

Broccoli can help protect the body against certain environmental contaminants and help the body get rid of toxins due to its antioxidant properties. Broccoli has also shown to have potent anti-inflammatory properties and may reduce inflammation in the gut.

3. Beets

Beets can help the liver regenerate which is very important when detoxing. As a result, the liver can function more effectively and rid the body of toxins. The betaine found in beets helps defend the body’s bile ducts which are essential when it comes to assisting in healthy digestion.

Beets thin the bile in your liver and allow it to flow more freely and keep it moving through the small intestine, assisting in digestion.

4. Green tea

Thanks to caffeine, green tea can act as a diuretic and help the body get rid of water weight and bloating. Green tea is also an excellent supporter of liver function because it contains lots of natural polyphenols. Polyphenols have been shown to support the body’s normal detoxification processes.

5. Lemon

Lemon is another excellent cleansing food. Thanks to its high traces of vitamin C, the citrus fruit can help the body fight toxins. Drinking warm or hot lemon water when you wake up may help get your digestive system moving.

Try to incorporate 2-3 of these foods daily to cleanse your body naturally and feel the difference!
